Doctor Malpractice

By David Austin of Burke-Eisner

Doctor malpractice is becoming more of a problem in the United States every year. It is responsible for close to 100,000 deaths and hundred of thousands of injuries. Also known as medical malpractice, patients may not even be aware there was neglect by their doctor or staff, so the numbers reported is higher. Though troubling enough, earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a survey taken by doctors and the results showed:

*56% had some involvement with a serious error
*74% had some involvement with a minor error
*66% said they’d had a “near miss”

Have You Been Injured by Doctor Malpractice?

Unfortunately not everyone can know if they were a victim of doctor malpractice. However there are some common causes that families need to be aware of such as a patient being misdiagnosed or their tests were read wrong. There have been situations where their instruments were not sterilized properly or the instruments were found in the patient’s body. These mistakes that could have been prevented will affect someone’s life temporarily, permanently and at times will cause death.

Common health problems include:

*Infections
*Damage to nerves or organs
*Bleeding
*Coma

Doctor Malpractice & Your Legal Rights

You may be entitled to some compensation if you were a victim of doctor malpractice. Doctor malpractice isn’t done on purpose, but it is not fair for what the victim must have to go through because of someone else’s mistakes. Doctor’s and the medical staff must live up to the hospital’s standards, so being held responsible will hopefully reduce the risks of errors. By contacting a lawyer, you can be entitled to compensations for the costs of the error such as lost wages, costs of treatments, pain and suffering and if needed, funeral expenses.
